Osteopathy:
A mode of manual therapy using a range of hands on treatments including Soft Tissue Treatment, Muscle Energy Technique, Articulation and Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy. Whilst clients tend to use these sessions to focus in on specific issues, the typical Osteopathic approach attempts not only to alleviate the immediate area of pain or discomfort but also address any underlying factors that may lay at the core of a client’s problem.
Appointments take up to one hour, with the initial appointment typically being made up of a short discussion of what brings the client to the clinic that day, a brief discussion of medical and muscular skeletal history, a postural assessment and a hands on examination and treatment, where follow on appointments will typically involve a quick chat about the client's progress a re-examination and treatment.
Osteopathy has a wide suite of techniques at its disposal, if you have visited an osteopath or any other type of manual therapist it is always worth mentioning it to your osteopath so that they can tailor their treatment to what best works for you.
